The theme is followed by fifteen variations and a fugue. Beethoven used the same theme in the finale of the ballet Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus (op. 43), a contredanse for orchestra (WoO 14 no. 7), and the finale of the symphony no. 3 (op. 55).
