Back to Franz Liszt
Liszt wrote two choral versions of an Ave maris stella with accompaniment by organ or harmonium: one for mixed choir (S. 34i; LW J19/1; R. 499a) and one for men’s choir (S. 34ii; LW J19/2; R. 499b). Around the same time, he made two arrangements of these: one for single voice and piano or harmonium (S. 680; LW K3; R. 641) and one for solo piano (S. 506; LW A243; R. 195); for the latter, he included some alternative passages for performance on the harmonium (S. 668a; LW E27/2). Around a decade later, he made a further arrangement for organ or harmonium that was published as the second of the Zwei Kirchenhymnen (S. 669; LW E27; R. 394).
