L’Hymne du Pape, S. 530

1864 · LW A228 · R. 190

Pio IX (Der Papsthymnus), also called L’Hymne du Pape, was originally written for organ (S. 261; LW E19a; R. 391), and later arranged for solo piano (S. 530; LW A228; R. 190), piano duet (S. 625; LW B29; R. 336) and orchestra (S. 361; LW G31; R. 443).

Liszt later made a version for voices called Dall’alma Roma (S. 36; LW J21; R. 502), and made a further adaptation as Die Gründung der Kirche (Tu es Petrus) (no. 8) from the oratorio Christus (S. 3; LW I7; R. 478). From this last form, he made two further arrangements for organ, one a simplification of the other (S. 664i+664ii; LW E19b; R. 391).
