Back to Robert Schumann
Schumann left many fragments and sketches for incomplete works. Incipits for a selection of these are given here. Further incipits are given on other pages: these are the Tanz for Davidsbündlertänze (op. 6), the capriccio for Carnaval (op. 9), the original finale of the sonata no. 3 (op. 14), four pieces for the Album für die Jugend (op. 68), the Variationen über den Sehnsuchtswalzer von Franz Schubert (Anh. F24), and the Variationen über ein Nocturne von Chopin (Anh. F26).
This fragment shares material with the original finale of the sonata no. 3 (op. 14).
The theme is the finale of Nicolò Paganini’s violin concerto no. 2 (op. 7).
The theme is the Zigeunermarsch from Carl Maria von Weber’s incidental music to Preciosa (op. 78).
There exist fragments and sketches for multiple pieces with these titles; here only incipits of two of the most substantial fragments are given.
Two different fragments exist, one marked andante and the other lento; here the incipit for the latter is given.
There exist fragments for the first and fourth movements.
