This sarabande probably belonged to a suite containing also two gavottes in A minor (WoO 3), a gigue in A minor (WoO 4/1), a lost präludium and aria (Anh. II/14), and perhaps further movements. Brahms later used a version of this sarabande in the second movement of the string quintet no. 1 (op. 88).
