The variations are written for piano and orchestra. They are often performed, though, by solo piano, with a virtually unchanged solo part and straightforward arrangements of the short orchestral passages. The theme, Là ci darem la mano from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni, is preceded by an introduction and followed by five variations and an Alla Polacca.
