Anton Seidl made orchestrations of Bell Ringing, Gangar, March of the Dwarfs and Notturno to form a suite with this order. In 1904, Grieg made his own orchestrations of these pieces, basing March of the Dwarfs and Notturno on Seidl’s arrangements, and orchestrating Bell Ringing and Gangar afresh. Finally, Grieg replaced Bell Ringing with a new orchestration of Shepherd’s Boy, and published the set as his Lyric Suite (also op. 54), with the final order of Shepherd’s Boy, Gangar, Notturno and March of the Dwarfs.
