George Frideric Handel

Menuet in D major, HWV 511

c. 1710–1720

The instrumentation of this piece is unspecified; the catalogue of Bernd Baselt describes it as for keyboard. A version of the piece is also used as menuet from the first Water Music suite (HWV 348).

The version given here, and in the Hallische Händel-Ausgabe, is in D major. Another version exists, in F major, which is the primary version described in the catalogue of Bernd Baselt. This latter version also includes an F minor trio based on the first violin and bass parts of the corresponding trio in the Water Music suite; the menuet in A minor (HWV 547) shares the same bass line with, instead, the second violin part.
