Album d’un voyageur (S. 156; A40a–c; R. 8) was composed between 1834 and 1838, published in 1842, and comprises three parts: Impressions et poésies (I), Fleurs mélodiques des Alpes (II) and Paraphrases (III). The third part had earlier been published separately under the title Trois Airs suisses (LW A27a).
Between 1848 and 1854, Liszt revised a selection of pieces from the first two parts of Album d’un voyageur to form the bulk of Années de pèlerinage, Première année (Suisse) (S. 160; LW A159; R. 10a). He added two new pieces to these revisions: Orage, which was newly written, and Eglogue, whose origins are contemporaneous with Album d’un voyageur.
In 1876, Liszt revised the third part of Album d’un voyageur as Trois Morceaux suisses (S. 156a; LW A27b; R. 8).
The below table gives a summary of the relationships between the works.
