This collection exists in an earlier version (S. 171a; LW A111a) and a later version (S. 172; LW A111b; R. 12). In the second version, the third piece is replaced entirely, and the other five pieces are revisions from the first version. Liszt made arrangements for organ of nos. 3–6 from the second version (S. 672d; LW E22).
