Back to Franz Liszt
In 1843, Liszt made a paraphrase of Gaudeamus igitur for solo piano (S. 240i; LW A96; R. 99), which was published at the same time. Ten years later, he made a revision of this paraphrase (S. 240ii; LW A96; R. 99), which was unpublished in his lifetime.
In 1869, Liszt made a new arrangement of Gaudeamus igitur for orchestra with choir, subtitled Humoreske, that was partially based on the earlier piano paraphrases. Of this orchestral work, he made arrangements for piano duet (S. 586; LW B34; R. 342) and solo piano (S. 509, LW A246, R. 200).
