Liszt published the later version as a supplement to Années de pèlerinage, Deuxième année (Italie) (S. 161; LW A55; R. 10b).

Liszt later used this theme in the symphonic poem Tasso: Lamento e Trionfo (S. 96; R. 413; LW G2), which he also arranged for two pianos (S. 636; LW C10; R. 358) and piano duet (S. 590; LW B20; R. 316).
