This prelude is in two halves; the first modulates from F major to E minor and the second modulates from E minor to C major. The original manuscript became separated and was for many years believed to constitute two separate pieces. The first half is not found in the Köchel catalogue, whilst the second is listed in the third and sixth versions of the catalogue as a cadenza for a piano concerto.
