This is a collection of settings of songs by Szymanowski, who wrote nine out of the total twenty, and his brother, Feliks, who wrote the other eleven. There is no separate vocal line: the score is for solo piano with accompanying text only, with the melody being simply the upper voice of the piano. Although intended to be performed with voice, the songs can be played by solo piano.
