Works by the Searle numbering

Works are identified by the numbering of Humphrey Searle, as revised by Sharon Winklhofer, and as further revised by Michael Short and Leslie Howard (F. Liszt / List of Works; Rugginenti, 2004). The list given here also includes subsequent revisions by Short and Howard outlined in the notes for Howard’s Liszt recordings (Liszt / New Discoveries Volume 3; Hyperion, 2011, The Complete Liszt Piano Music; Hyperion, 2011, and Liszt / New Discoveries Volume 4; Hyperion, 2018). It should be noted that some online pages give further additions and changes that are apparently based on unpublished work by Short and Howard; Howard himself has confirmed that much of this information is simply false.

Cross-references are given to the New Grove 2 numbering and the Raabe numbering. It should be noted that, whilst the Searle numbering identifies every version of a work or piece separately, the New Grove 2 and Raabe numberings often group these together.
